dc.description.abstract URU 3579 2362 5 pages. Minute from the Prime Minister’s Office, 1 Nov. 1956, stating that the Protocol agreed to at the seventh meeting of the International Whaling Commission had only been signed by 10 of 17 nations (including South Africa) so at the eighth meeting of the Commission in Jul. 1956, it was resolved to ask the Depository Government (the USA) to open the Protocol for signature on the basis of acceptance received to date. The Protocol will therefore enter into force for those countries that had already ratified it and would enter into force for the remaining countries when they subsequently ratify it. The Minister’s believe that it is in the interests of the Union to sign this Protocol and for authorisation to be given to the Union’s Ambassador in Washington to accept and sign the Protocol (a copy of which is attached). en_ZA
